“Two giants of the sludge and doom scene went into a cooperation to help each other out on a split LP that was filled with high expectations and will be one of the best split LP’s of 2013 for sure. For those who are not familiar with the crude blunt force trauma that is called Cough, go read my previous reviews or buy this LP as a must-have starting point. The nearly twenty minute long slow bludgeoning monster “Athame” is full of the qualities that this trio from Richmond USA stands for. I must admit I forgot the debut of Windhand, but hearing their two songs “Amaranth” and the more spacey “Sheperd’s Crook” makes me want to look up the debut again. Windhand sounds as massive and aggressive as their city companions, yet they sound more neat, more nice, more like civilized barbarians, without being tamed that is. Not as heavy but that does not mean their sludge doom is lots lighter! A must have in all possible ways. Relapse sold a limited edition which is already sold out I guess.”
