“Well I’ll be doomed! Do we have a third album here? Yes, we have! Totally unexptected, since I consider this formation as a one-off studio project. But since their earth crushing debut album “I” back in 2003, they did play a couple of shows and released another album, the equally impressive “II” (2006). And now we may welcome even a third studio album, so we can hardly say anymore that is a side thingy for Candlemass maestro Leif Edling and ex-Therion (and countless others) vocalist Mats Lev’n. Especially since the other musicians are also the same as on the other albums. is not a project, but a real band, a band of flesh and’doom. Tons of doom.”
“With the same line-up and the well-known, pretty traditional composing qualities of Leif Edling, we know what to expect on this album. still delivers the same powerful, mighty and dark sounding epic doom metal. It’s heavier and darker than Candlemass, though less spooky as Leif Edling’s solo album. It’s seven songs and 45 minutes of ultimate doom-pleasure. Mats is singing the stars from the sky as usual, the guitar leads from Fred Akesson (Opeth) are horny as hell, Peter Stjarnvind (Entombed, Unanimated, Nifelheim and lots more) is killing the skins with thunderous power and the ominous keys of Carl Westholm (ex-Opeth) gives the album even more depth and darkness. One moment is different and quite remarkable: at 5’46” on “The Hades Assembly” we hear a grunter. Regarding the grim vocals on Leif’s solo record, I assume it’s his voice.”
“I think I have to give a critical note, because I can hardly hear any relevant differences while comparing this new album with the other two. The third album starts where “II” ended five years ago. Also the music and the songs sound very logical, very obvious. The songs flow so fluidly and sound so natural, that you almost gonna think the songwritings were done on the automatic pilot. But if an automatic pilot sounds so overwhelmingly good as this one, I don’t even think of being critical. Also the third album is a small masterpiece and for the third time in a row the doom metal album of the year.”
