“These guys keep surprising, but hey, he’s fabulous again! The general garage sound was already slightly more civilized with their former release “Mania”, the vocals had raised up a bit from the deepest caverns, and with “” some further steps are taken. Whatever these guys do, one way or another, they do it with great taste. The stoned stoner from the early days had a sound that blasted away any average garage band. The second album “Phi’ is a truly underestimated masterpiece in the genre, and the gorgeous musical tapestries of “Mania” are also very consumable. For conveniences sake I’ll leave out the very tasteful appetizers/in-betweens.”
“Well, whats on the menu with this latest release? Just as some colleagues in the genre seem to try out lately, take some very well succeeded sidesteps into the heavy grunge. The production has graciously adapted the new influences and might even be called more accessible for a larger audience. We actually can hear some true singing including great melodic vocal lines which are not any longer concealed in a musical mist or effects. Fortunately these guys stick to a certain stubbornness in their arrangements, and they are still daring with the sound intensity (when you value your stereo gear, stay away from that volume button). These guys have always succeeded to give their music that bit extra; its obvious they just live for their music, and as a listener you can feel that (theres also an interesting documentary of the band). The latest release (still) is stoner of the highest quality, but with some extra flavors. Also with the latest ingredients these guys may have a chance to get their music to a broader audience. Maybe one track might not be that suitable for the average listener, but it sure is worth mentioning; the final track “Mastodont”. The band takes the time to present a wide range of influences into a phenomenal piece of music which lasts fourteen minutes, but its worth every second of it. Unfortunately I had to miss the band playing live in my hometown last year, but I will make sure Ill be there the sixteenth of January!”
